Only 1% of main characters in kid’s books aren’t white!

So, I think it was last week I read an article in the guardian about some research that showed only 1% of children’s books had a main character from an ethnic minority. I mean, that’s just shocking really isn’t it? If you consider how diverse the UK is as a country.

When I wrote Space Bugs and Selfies! I released it was an opportunity to have a main character who wasn’t the usual little white girl. But also, I didn’t want to make the book about that, it’s by-the-by that she’s not white. It’s not mentioned because it doesn’t matter. It is just is. She just is.

Anyway, the article is a great, if slightly sad read.
